Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

mL2639_1024x1024My first run as an online film critic began with a Spider-Man review, so it’s only natural for me to try and start a new one in the same way.

Doctor Strange

doctor-strange-posterBeats the hell out of Harry Potter, anyway.

What’s It About? When an accident forces him to quit the medical practice, Dr. Stephen Strange turns to the study of sorcery, and is drawn into a secret war to defend Earth against an extra-dimensional threat.

STRAIGHT UP: Visually impressive, but underwhelming as a whole. 3/5

Marvel movies are cinematic comfort food, and I always go back for seconds.

What’s It About? When Captain America and Iron Man come to a disagreement about the future of the Avengers, a shadow agent exploits the tension to cause an all-out battle between the two heroes and their closest allies.

STRAIGHT UP: Standout action and character work; among Marvel’s best. 4/5

Avengers Assemble! I couldn’t call myself a film critic if I missed out on this.

What’s It About? When Tony Stark’s latest AI creation goes rogue and constructs a homicidal robot army, only the combined efforts of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can save the day.

STRAIGHT UP: The WrestleMania of superhero films. That’s mostly a compliment. 9/10
