Quick & Dirty Awards 2015

awards2015

Ladies and gentlemen,

With the end of 2015 drawing near, it’s time to revive the annual tradition of handing out my Quick & Dirty Awards! Once again, I’ve chosen winners in ten categories representing the best and worst of this year’s movies. The criteria for selection were as follows:

1. The film premiered in 2015.
2. I watched the film in its entirety at some point, even if I didn’t review it.

This year, one strong contender dominated the awards. Who was the big winner? Read on to find out!

Best Actor
Given to the actor with the best performance in a major role.
Winners: Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone, Creed
– Two inseparable performances, each perfect in different ways.

Best Actress
Given to the actress with the best performance in a major role.
Winner: Charlize Theron, Mad Max: Fury Road
– Theron’s performance as Furiosa can only be described as iconic.

Best Music
Given to the film with the most memorable soundtrack or score.
Winner: It Follows
– The only soundtrack this year to follow me out of the theater and into my daily life.

Best Cinematography
Given to the film with the most interesting or innovative camerawork.
Winner: Creed
– Each bout is filmed totally differently, showing off a full range of filmmaking chops.

Sleeper Hit of the Year
Given to the film that most exceeded my expectations upon viewing.
Winner: The Gift
– This budget film with a first-time director was taut, twisted, and very entertaining.

Best Picture
Given to the best overall film of the year.
Runners-Up: Furious 7, Mad Max: Fury Road, It Follows, Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Winner: Creed
Creed revived an American pop-culture icon, and did so with more heart and style than any other film released in years.
